Po­ję­cie „da­nych bio­me­trycz­nych” sto­so­wa­ne w ni­niej­szym roz­po­rzą­dze­niu na­le­ży in­ter­pre­to­wać w świe­tle po­ję­cia da­nych bio­me­trycz­nych zde­fi­nio­wa­ne­go w art. 4 pkt 14 roz­po­rzą­dze­nia (UE) 2016/679, art. 3 pkt 18 roz­po­rzą­dze­nia (UE) 2018/1725 i art. 3 pkt 13 dy­rek­ty­wy (UE) 2016/680. Dane bio­me­trycz­ne mogą umoż­li­wiać uwie­rzy­tel­nia­nie, iden­ty­fi­ka­cję lub ka­te­go­ry­za­cję osób fi­zycz­nych oraz roz­po­zna­wa­nie emo­cji osób fi­zycz­nych.
